Meet the Maker
“I want to preserve the hand skills that have been used in Ireland for thousands of years that form a part of our rich Irish heritage. I love the idea that I can pass down these skills to future generations. The physical making also connects me to the jewellery in a way that new technology can never do.”
Inspired by the metal’s malleability, she continually pushes the boundaries of flat metal sheet through hammering and forging to create new and exciting three-dimensional shapes. From these shapes, a story is born.
This idea of passing on family histories through story has been inspirational in Loretta’s work. The sentiment and meaning behind each design are as important as the design itself. Her work aims to create positive emotional connections, elevating them from not only being a beautiful piece of jewellery to also becoming a cherished piece with personal significance.
We all have stories inside us that shape who we are. Wearing one of Loretta O’Sullivan’s fine jewellery pieces reminds us to celebrate and embrace these stories.
Loretta O’Sullivan is originally from a rural village in Co. Armagh, but now lives in Ratoath Co. Meath with her husband and three children.
